For immediate release:
Astbury Marsden today (Monday 22 December) released a survey showing financial sector employees are expecting bonus increases of, on average, 21% for this year.
In response David Hillman, spokesperson for the Robin Hood Tax campaign, said:
"It is beyond belief that City bonuses are set for such a huge increase - this is completely out of sync with the wider economy.
"Yet we probably shouldn't be surprised. Expectations of outlandish bonuses have become something of a Christmas tradition in the Square Mile - regardless of what sort of scandal-ridden year the sector has had.
"If the financial services industry can afford to splash out on such lavish bonuses they can afford to pay more for the damage they inflicted on our economy."
